Hobbies:
  • Outdoors:  I really enjoy camping, hiking, horse rides, and anything near or on the water, especially when I get to do them with my family.  My kids and I love to camp near lakes so that we can go kayaking or canoeing.
  • Music:  I play the piano (just a little) and viola and love to sing.  I am currently in a community choir that allows me to be involved in many different types of performances: The Forgotten Carols, DSU musical concerts, and a Tuacahn musical production.   Sometimes my husband is able to join one of the productions and it makes it even better.
  • Family:  I love my family and the many things that we get to do together.   Family reunions and visiting grandparents and cousins are always fun, too.

Personal:

I am the oldest of 6 children in my family.  As I was growing up my family moved often, but we usually lived in small towns; mostly Roosevelt and Cache Valley.  My grandma was quite the adventurer and would bring some of us grandchildren down to Cedar City and St. George to go camping or see the Shakespeare and Tuacahn plays.  I am sure some of these trips contributed to my love of outdoors, live theater and music.

After I was married my husband and I travelled to St. George to see plays and visit cousins once in a while.  We liked Southern Utah, but lived near Salt Lake for our jobs.  I didn’t really enjoy being in a big city, but I did like being close to both of our families.  After several years of job hunting we finally got jobs in St. George and have lived here for 9 years, where it feels like home and is a great place to raise our 2 kids.  I love the small town feeling, the outdoor resources, and the wonderful community.  Even though my parents, siblings, and in-laws don’t live close, I try to get them to come and visit often because it is a wonderful place to be.

Why I chose prevention:

I was a full-time working mom and decided I really needed to spend more time with my children and help them with all of their activities.  I saw a part-time job listed and just felt like it was the right fit for me.  After I was hired, and learned more about prevention, I could not have imagined how perfect it was for me – I love all of the programs and prevention philosophies; it has even helped me to be able to be a better parent and taught me how to talk to my kids so that they are happy, healthy and safe.  I want to do what I can to help as many children and youth to have the same opportunities.
