An Ounce of Prevention, with LaMar Macklin
on air at KSUB 590 AM since 1996

(Tuesdays & Mondays - 6:30am)

An Ounce of Prevention is a talk radio show that has evolved over the years from a 15 minute, one-day-a-week-show to 30 minutes, two days a week with contributions from the Southwest Public Health Department.  We discuss some tough issues, including:
substance abuse, alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, suicide, violence prevention, harm reduction, mental health issues,
the issues surrounding the legalization of marijuana and all drugs,
And best of all, the issues you bring to the table with your calls!

More about the show:

An Ounce of Prevention has been on the air since 1996 with one creed in mind: “This show belongs to everyone”. We aren't looking into conspiracies, we're sharing facts and science. Benjamin Franklin said it best when he said "An Ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". It's true. A little bit of effort up front can prevent a world-full of problems later on down the road. So we add that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, or new taxes to deal with more problems, or years worth of rehab to treat issues that we could prevent in the first place.

Over the years we have had top state, local, and national elected officials, law enforcement, treatment experts and many others join us on the show to discuss the most relevant issues surrounding prevention services in our communities. Once a month, licensed prevention specialists from the Southwest Behavioral Health Center take the air to talk to us about all the things going on with the Southwest Prevention team and all the amazing things that are going on in their communities. We regularly have our local prevention coalitions sharing with our listeners what they're planning, updating us on their success, sharing what the prevention needs are and how we can all get involved, and promoting upcoming events. Once a week we also welcome a representative from the Southwest Public Health Department to discuss important health issues for our communities.

Most importantly, we invite you to call in and share your thoughts and ideas regarding prevention, and take the opportunity to discuss with our guests and take advantage of their expertise. So join us. We invite you to tune in each Tuesday and Wednesday at 6:30am. At the very least, we'll share current research with you and introduce you to experts who discuss local issues. And at the most, it really might change your life!
